The IM Research Team
The research services directorate is led by Robert Hart, an experienced education practitioner with past roles as teacher, head teacher, local authority education adviser and government adviser on new technology in education. Robert has led all IM's research and consultancy projects to date with the support of a dedicated and experienced team including
- Professor Martyn Wild - LaTrobe University, Melbourne. Martyn is Director of Intuitive Media Australia and is a senior academic with a research expertise in eLearning. Martyn serve on the review boards of 5 major international journals and enjoys a well-deserved international reputation for his work in eLearning.
- Dr Magdelena Bober - Formerly London School of Economics. Magdelena worked as Research Officer and co-author with Professor Sonia Livingstone of the Department of Media and Communications at LSE on the seminal UK Children Go Online report.
The research team who design the Research Surveys, Test Zones and Learning Channel initiatives and analyze and report on the results, are in turn supported by skilled Project Managers who keep IM's projects on track, on time and on budget and the community Editors and Mediators who engage the children and promote the research projects within IM's communities.
Academic Panel
The team is supported by an academic panel of distinguished advisers including some of the most experienced and respected researchers into child development and learning and particularly online learning:
- Professor Karen Pine - Professor of Developmental Psychology, School of Psychology, University of Hertfordshire. Karen has an interest in children’s cognitive development. She was commissioned by DCSF to conduct independent research into the Social and Educational benefits of SuperClubsPLUS. She is widely published and is Research Leader of the School of Psychology, a Member of the BPS Developmental Section, Associate Editor of The Psychologist, 2004 - 2007; Reviewer for various journals including the British Journal of Psychology.
- Professor Stephen Heppell - University of Bournemouth. Stephen founded Ultralab in the 1980s, which over 20 years grew to become Europe's leading learning technology research centre with projects that pioneered multimedia CD ROMs and on-line communities. Stephen was the inspiration behind guiding "father" of a number of pioneering social networking projects including IM's Tesco Schoolnet 2000. Today Stephen heads his own policy and learning consultancy Heppell.net. He is an active professor at Bournemouth University and elsewhere and on a number of boards, including chairing the charity Inclusion Trust.
- Professor Ben (C) Fletcher - Head of the School of Psychology, University of Hertfordshire. Ben is Professor of Personal & Organizational Development. He is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Health Psychologist. He began his academic career with the Medical Research Council at Sheffield University. He has published a large number of books and research papers in the area of stress, health and personal/organizational development.
