“Dear Prime Minister,
Our country seems to be changing in many ways, however the children, the future of Britain have ideas which could reduce poverty, pollution and racism in the UK.
If the Adults listened to the children would our country speak out with the future on its lips or just follow its fate?”
So writes Ellis, a 12 year old girl, who with over 6000 other members of SuperClubsPLUS and GoldStarCafe, took part in research inviting children to tell us what made them feel happy and safe (and unhappy and unsafe) in the real world and in their new online worlds and asking them to tell the UK Prime Minister and the government how their lives could be improved.
The research report shows that most children do feel safe and happy and that the love of their family and friends is the most important source of happiness. However they also said that boredom is the biggest downer along with adults who expect too much of them and having to work too hard.
Our children are concerned about violence and street crime and a surprising number worry about their parents arguing or divorcing. They worry about their own health, and in recession-hit Britain they worry about being poor.
We gave them an imaginary 30 seconds to talk to the Prime Minister in a lift. They gave some well considered ideas on how the government could do more to: listen to children; keep children safe; stop bullying; ban drugs, alcohol and smoking; and take action on the environment.

“I want the Prime Minister to stop gang crime and alcohol and drugs being on the streets as I don't like sleeping on a Friday or Saturday night because of all the shouting and teenagers around.”
- Megan, 11
“I'd say that he [the Prime Minister] needs to seriously think about the amount of homework given in school. I've been really stressed about all the work I have to do, and one week I didn't even have any time to do anything fun at all.”
- Catriona, 13
“They can help by employing community police because in my area there is no police for miles and we have very dangerous teenagers up my street and every night they make noise and they walk up and down my street and i know I’m ten and i shouldn’t be scared but i am.”
- Olivia, 10

Most adults accept mobile phones as a liberating technology, but find quirky ringtones and loud train conversations intrusive. Young children, however, seem to embrace them with unqualified enthusiasm. We are interested in their educational, social and commercial potential, so we asked 1477 of the 6 to 13 year olds in our Protected Online Learning Communities, whether they had mobiles and how they used them.
Most of the children said they owned mobile phones. They use them mainly at home - evenings and weekends to call parents and friends. A few use them at school. A surprising number pay their own bills. Children like to share music with friends and play music on the move. They spend money downloading ringtones and other content. A few access the Internet on their phones. Where parents make rules, they relate to using phone credits wisely and giving out private information.

When we were children, we knew every time Auntie came to visit she would ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Adults have always been fascinated by children’s aspirations. In this survey 1,800 children age 6 to 13 -all members of our Protected Online Learning Communities, tell us who and what influences, motivates and inspires this generation of young people as they think about the future.
They have some way to go before realizing their ambitions and reality will play it’s unpredictable part, but their aspirations are remarkably clear and well expressed. These children are ambitious but pragmatic and deliver quite a few surprises.

On 1st July 2007, Ofcom and the Committee of Advertising Practice imposed new restrictions for food and soft drink product advertisements to children in broadcast or non-broadcast media in the UK. In the light of this, Intuitive Media carried out research with children aged 6 to 13 to explore their behaviour and attitudes relating to online promotion of food and drink and its influence in changing their consumption behavior.
