Intuitive Media and Scholastic Book Clubs and Fairs are pleased to announce their newest joint venture: a week of online author and illustrator events during Children’s Book Week, 5th - 9th October 2009.
Kids Lit 09 will be hosted on Intuitive Media’s safe and mediated social networking sites for young people, SuperclubsPLUS and GoldStarCafe. Thousands of children in the UK will have access to the ‘Hot Seat’ interviews that will take place each afternoon throughout the week. Alongside a mediator, the interviewees log onto the sites and answer the questions as they are posted by the children.
Kids Lit 09 has a fantastic line-up for its first year and includes events with the new Children’s Laureate, Anthony Browne, as well as Jacqueline Wilson, Martin Brown, Holly Webb and Bali Rai.
Scholastic Book Clubs and Fairs, which reach every primary school in the UK, chose the authors and illustrators that they knew their young readers would most love to ‘meet’. Alyx Price, Group PR Director at Scholastic UK said, ‘We have been running individual author Hot Seats with Intuitive Media for a while now and the next obvious and exciting step was to create an online literary festival. We looked at the sales from our Book Clubs and Fairs and invited the children’s favourite authors and illustrators to take part. We were really delighted when they all said yes!’
Intuitive Media is committed to providing inspirational learning activities for children and, together with Scholastic, are providing an innovative approach to Literacy. Carole Fletcher, MD says, ‘As part of Kids Lit we are also, for the second year running, inviting children to take part in the Young Author of the Year Award 2009. From September to the end of October children can submit their stories, and the winners and runners up will have their work featured in Intuitive Media’s second book - a collection of short stories by children.’
All children across the UK can take part in all the literacy activities. Teachers and parents can register children for free trials during the festival at or ).

Sixty of last year's Young Author of the Year winners have written their own book.

After the first paragraph you forget the stories are written by children as the quality of writing rivals that of many professional authors. The range of stories excited, scared and gripped me from the first page to the last and I read the whole book cover-to-cover! I am delighted that we are able to work together with SuperClubsPLUS and GoldStarCafe to enable the many children who want to write, to be able to see their work in print.
